Long time no see! A crazy theory about the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ sequel

Run to watch Infinity War! Run!

I’m back! Yes, it’s been a long time. Hello, how have you all been?

Long story short, I lost my mojo for writing (again), and I’m not sure if I’ve gotten it back. But if there’s *anything* that can get me out of my slump (for now), it’s Avengers: Infinity War — the culmination of all we’ve been waiting for since we first saw Thanos six years ago — which I just watched today. Took leave to catch the very first show (which was pretty packed, despite the early hour!) And can I say: WHOA.

I don’t really want to give any spoilers, because I want to do a proper review of Infinity War in another post. (That post will be full of spoilers, because I don’t know how to talk about the movie properly without giving away at least one or ten plot points away.) But I just came up with a crazy theory that will explain why Kevin Feige said the Marvel Cinematic Universe after next year’s Avengers movie will look completely different.

There are spoilers in my theory, inevitably, because it concerns the ending of Infinity War. I’ve tried to make it as minor as I can, but I may not have succeeded. So if you REALLY don’t want to know a single thing about Infinity War, don’t read this until you’ve watched it! (I’ll be removing this warning three months after the movie has come out.)

I noticed that all the OG Phase One Avengers are still left standing at the end. (Minus Clint, who didn’t appear at all because he was under house arrest with his family.) What if, in the next movie, a situation arose in which in order to get everyone back, all the Avengers left standing (including our original six) had to sacrifice themselves? It will explain how the original cast bow out of the MCU and it becomes a new thing.

There’ll still be sequels for the newer movies like Guardians of the Galaxy (the OG Guardians will probably end after Vol. 3 anyway, according to director James Gunn) and Spider-Man: Homecoming. And I imagine Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and Black Panther will get their due too, especially Black Panther, which has practically been printing money for Disney since it came out. But an MCU without Tony Stark, Cap, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye (well, maybe not so much? Sorry Clint! :S) will certainly be the end of everything as we know it.
