The 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, the biggest and most popular fan convention in the world, mecca to pop culture geeks everywhere, happened this past weekend, and film and TV studios have been busy dropping new footage and peeks at their upcoming shows. There’s actually still one more day to go, but the major film and TV panels are done with, so I’ll get down to the news that I’m most excited about.

New Thor: Ragnarok trailer!

Sadly, Marvel didn’t release the Avengers: Infinity War trailer that they first showed at D23, and played again for the people in Hall H. I guess it’s to be expected, since they also didn’t release the trailer for Age of Ultron that Comic-Con goers got a sneak peek of in 2014 until October of that year. But they did release a new Thor: Ragnarok trailer, which looks awesome! We see more of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Cate Blanchett as Hela, goddess of Death! More interaction between Hulk and Thor! Hulk talking! More of Hela destroying Asgard! More of Thor and Hela facing down each other! Still with the same weird quirky vibe of the teaser trailer, and the ’80s video-game type music and graphics! Thor teaming up with Loki again! (You must remember that last Thor saw Loki, he thought he was dead. Which reminds me: What happened to Odin?)

And through all these, Thor still looks cheerful and unbeaten!

Ready Player One trailer debut

Steven Spielberg directs this film adaptation of an ultra popular dystopian book set in 2045, where people are obsessed with the ’80s, and love to spend all their time in a virtual reality world called OASIS that harks back to the ’80s. I don’t really get the trailer — only that it looks futuristic and video-gamish — but I haven’t read the book. I’ll rectify that soon.

In the meantime, if you want to know how many ’80s Easter eggs they managed to squeeze into the movie, here you go!

New Justice League trailer

It injects some tongue-in-cheek humour, and Amazons! Unfortunately, the Amazons look like they’ll all be killed off since the Big Bad lands in their midst :S So basically, the movie looks almost as dark and bleak as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Urrgghh. Please don’t let that be the case.

Casting news for Ant-Man and the Wasp!

Michelle Pfeiffer will play Janet Van Dyne — Hope Van Dyne’s mother, and Hank Pym’s wife whom he thought was dead after she went sub-atomic (i.e. shrunk herself into the size of an atom and didn’t stop shrinking)! It’s exciting, because she’s not just a great actress with clout following the footsteps of people like Glenn Close, Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Lee Jones and more who have joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she used to be another comic book superhero: Catwoman in Batman Returns! (Her Batman co-star in that movie, Michael Keaton, was in Spider-Man: Homecoming, as you all know.) Laurence Fishburne (aka Morpheus from The Matrix trilogy, another pop culture favourite) will also play a role!

Soon, everyone who is anyone will have joined the Marvel Universe. It is inevitable.

Captain Marvel updates!

It’ll be set in the ’90s, even before Iron Man, and will feature Nick Fury with two working eyes! (I suppose they’ll explain how he lost his eye in this movie.)

One more thing…

There’s a new Game of Thrones trailer, but apparently it spoils the return of a major character, so I shan’t put it here. I want to see how long I can remain unspoiled before the episode where he/she returns airs. But if you would like to watch it, here it is!
