Why I’m starting this blog

Here’s to a good beginning. Let me see how I can start.

I have always mulled over starting a blog to write about movies, but never did, because I felt my writing to be inferior to all the other movie critics out there. They are able to analyse the shit out of a film and explain in grand and eloquent terms what makes them great/horrible.

Whereas sometimes I like a movie, well, just because, and have no idea how to elaborate further than that.

And so I continued, for several years, without doing a thing about it.

But lately, I have become more comfortable with who I am, and so I decided: perhaps I don’t have to be like them. I shall write how I want, how I feel, and just be myself — even if it is nowhere near as good as The New York Times, or The Hollywood Reporter, or any of the dozens of professional movie critics. Because my taste wouldn’t match a critic’s anyway, being as mainstream as it is. While there are many critically acclaimed movies that I love, there is an equal number in which I have no idea what they are talking about, even if I can appreciate the thought behind it and I can see why a highbrow film critic would like it. And there are dozens of movies which critics pan for being mindless, overblown entertainment with no plot, but rank amongst my favourite movies of all time, because they did what they set out to do: I was entertained, and still am, by them.

So perhaps you can say that I really am the regular “mass” moviegoer, with tastes slightly, *just slightly*, more refined than most. (Or perhaps I am just kidding myself, and I am really just one of the many cheap-thrill seekers whom Hollywood has been successful in pandering to with films like Transformers and Armageddon, and nothing more.)

Above all, it is for myself to jabber on about all things related to movies that I am excited about, but no one else around me seems to be. And hopefully, some day perhaps, I will be able to find people who are equally passionate about the whole business of filmmaking as I am, and can distinguish Michael Fassbender from Tom Hiddleston.
